Squash is an intensive game, there is no doubt about that. But you might be wondering, why play squash? Yes, I know there are other sports like this one, but what makes squash the ultimate sport?

Well, there are a number of reasons and I’m sure you already know some them by now. The most common reason is that it is easy to learn.

There aren’t any complicated rules and you should be able to learn the basics quite easily. You don’t need any prior training to start hitting the ball. Now, every athlete will argue that the sport that they take part in is the ultimate.

In a sense, they are right because you can’t deny the fact that every sport is great. But that is a topic for another day. In this article, we are going to focus mainly on squash and here are the top 5 reasons why should start playing.

Why Play Squash?

If you are new to this sport, welcome! This is a fantastic sport and it has so many advantages over simply going to the gym. Read this article to read more about them.

There are literally hundreds of sports that are trying to get your attention. But I’m going to be highlighting 5 top reasons why you should at least try squash.

1. Easy To Learn The Basics

Yes, it is very easy to learn the basics. You should be able to start hitting the ball quite quickly but there are always plenty of level for improvement and polishing up your skills. So, you will always have room for improvement.

2. Suitable For Everyone

It is suitable for everybody. The young, the middle-aged and the seniors, literally anyone can take up this sport. The men, the women, the boys, and the girls, everybody comply.
In fact, it isn’t specific to one age group or gender. You can often mix in with different age groups and different genders. It’s not a big deal for squash, everybody can play against everybody.

3. More Than Just Physical

It’s more than just physical. You do require some intense physical movement, but it is more than that. Not a lot of people enjoy workouts and burning calories because let’s face it, it is boring.

When it comes to squash, you are not just randomly moving. You need to think so it keeps your brain active.

4. Perfect Stress Reliever

It is also a fantastic stress reliever. There is nothing better than running around the court, hitting the ball to release a lot of tension. Research shows that sport is the ultimate way to relieve stress in a healthy manner.

5. Get Fit & Healthy

Squash helps you get fit and healthy. This game is a natural cardio workout. It is great for high-intensity interval training and it also helps you develop strength, power, and agility. It also improves your concentration and hand to eye coordination.

6. Play All Year Around

Because it is an indoor sport, it can be played all year around. You can play squash in pretty much any weather. The game changes a little bit between the deepest snowy weather and the hottest sweltering winter, but it is still the same game.

You just have to adapt to the different conditions, but you can pay any time of the year.

7. Fun & Competitive

It is both fun and competitive at the same time. So, if you just want to be a recreational player, just play around with your friends. You can easily do that without the stress of tournaments and being the best squash player.

But if you want to take it a little bit more seriously, join some leagues or join some teams, there is plenty of that available as well.

8. Friendly & Welcoming Community

The community around squash is generally very friendly and welcoming. If you travel, you could probably go to almost any big city around the world, make a few phone calls and find some way to play. There will always be people willing to play with you.

9. Not Everything Is Perfect

So far, everything seems perfect, right? Wrong! Because there are some things that you need to consider, and it would be wrong of me not to talk about those things.

One of those things is cost. I don’t think it is particularly expensive, but it can be depending on where you live. If you have never played before, don’t go out and buy any equipment.

You might end up purchasing the wrong or paying way more than what you will get in return.

You could start borrowing a racquet and use flat shoes, don’t use running shoes and you don’t need squash shoes if you are just starting out.

There is always that slight risk of injuries. It’s hard to find a sport without the risk of injuries and that is true for squash too.

But if you heat up properly before you go on court, you will likely to minimize that. And with the right equipment, which I will be talking about in future, then you can reduce the chances of that happening as well.

10. It’s Addictive!

The final reason 😀 Yes, it is addictive. Addiction, it is quite possible that you will become addicted to squash because it is amazing.

Well, that’s it. These are the top 10 reasons why you should be playing squash. I think I’ve mentioned them all. I’ve also warned you about some of the things you might not be so happy about.
